The School of Pharmacy, Dhanalakshmi Srinivasan University, Chengalpattu, is a centre of excellence dedicated to advancing pharmaceutical education, research, and healthcare innovation. The school offers Undergraduate and Diploma programs in Pharmacy, including a Bachelor of Pharmacy (B.Pharm) and Diploma in Pharmacy (D.Pharm). The curriculum is designed to provide students with a strong foundation in the fundamentals of Pharmaceutical sciences, including drug design and development, Pharmacology, Pharmaceutics, Pharmacognosy, and Pharmaceutical Chemistry.

Academic Programs

The School of Pharmacy envisions offering a comprehensive range of academic programs that will nurture competent, ethical, and research-driven pharmacy professionals. Each program will be designed to integrate scientific knowledge with practical experience, preparing students to meet the evolving demands of the global pharmaceutical and healthcare sectors.

Diploma Program (Planned)

Diploma in Pharmacy (D.Pharm) – Duration: 2 Years

The D.Pharm program will be introduced to impart foundational knowledge and essential skills required for entry-level positions in hospital, retail, and community pharmacies.

It will focus on dispensing practices, pharmacology fundamentals, and patient counseling, laying the groundwork for lifelong learning in the pharmacy profession.

  • Pathway to pursue higher studies (B.Pharm / M.Pharm)

Eligibility for D.Pharm Admissions:

  • A pass in H.S.C. with (a) Physics, Chemistry, Botany and Zoology.(or) (b) Physics, Chemistry, Biology or Mathematics with any other subjects.
  • Candidates must have completed 17 years of age and should not have completed 30 years as on 31st December 2019 (For SC/ST candidate’s maximum age is enhanced to 35 years). Evidence should be produced.

Undergraduate Program (Planned)

Bachelor of Pharmacy (B.Pharm) – Duration: 4 Years

The B.Pharm program will be established to provide students with a strong foundation in pharmaceutical sciences, drug formulation, pharmacology, medicinal chemistry, and clinical pharmacy.

Through a blend of theoretical instruction and laboratory-based training, the program will aim to develop professionals equipped for careers in pharmaceutical manufacturing, research, quality control, and clinical practice.

  • Emphasis on innovation, patient safety, and ethical practice

Eligibility for B. Pharm Admissions:

  • For OC / BC / BCM / MBC / DNC Candidates : Pass in Higher Secondary Course with Physics, Chemistry, Biology or Botany and Zoology or Mathematics not less than 40 % aggregate marks.
  • For SC / SCA / ST Candidates: Pass in Higher Secondary Course with Physics, Chemistry, Biology or Botany and Zoology (or) Mathematics. • Should have completed the age of 17 years on or before 31st December of admitting year.
  • The candidates who have passed any qualifying examination other than the Higher Secondary Course Examination conducted by the Government of Tamil Nadu shall submit the eligibility certificate from the Tamil Nadu Dr.MGR Medical University and such admissions are provisional till the University approves.

Postgraduate Programs (Proposed / Planned)

Master of Pharmacy (M.Pharm) – Duration: 2 Years

The M.Pharm program will aim to foster specialized expertise and advanced research skills among graduates.

Students will be encouraged to engage in cutting-edge projects focusing on formulation development, pharmacological evaluation, and clinical applications.

Planned Specializations:

  • Pharmaceutics – Formulation design, drug delivery, and industrial pharmacy
  • Pharmacology – Drug mechanisms, toxicology, and pre-clinical evaluation
  • Pharmaceutical Chemistry – Medicinal chemistry and analytical techniques
  • Pharmacy Practice – Clinical pharmacy, hospital pharmacy, and patient care

Eligibility for M. Pharm Admissions:

  • A Pass in B. Pharm Degree examination of an Indian university established by law in India from an institution approved by Pharmacy Council of India and has scored not less than 55 % of the maximum marks (aggregate of 4 years of B.Pharm.).
  • Registration with the State Pharmacy Council or should obtain the same within one month from the date of his/her admission, failing which the admission of the candidate shall be cancelled. No upper age limit.

Doctoral Research (Planned)


Pharm D

The Pharm D. program will be established as a research-intensive initiative to promote innovation and scientific inquiry in pharmaceutical sciences.

Doctoral scholars will pursue advanced research in diverse areas contributing to drug discovery, formulation development, nanomedicine, pharmacovigilance, and regulatory science.

Planned Research Areas:

  • Drug design and discovery using modern computational tools
  • Nanotechnology and targeted drug delivery systems
  • Pharmacovigilance, safety, and regulatory compliance studies
  • Natural product and phytochemical research
  • Pharmaceutical quality assurance and analytical development

Eligibility for Pharm. D Admissions:

Pass in HSC examination 10th, 12th Physics and Chemistry as compulsory subjects along with one of the following subjects: Mathematics or Biology. The Duration of the courses shall be six academic years (five years of study and one year of internship or residency) full time
